Mood & Emotional Well-being
Is depression common during perimenopause?
Perimenopause is associated with an increased risk of depressive symptoms, particularly in women with a prior history of depression, postpartum depression, or premenstrual mood changes. Hormonal fluctuations, disrupted sleep, and the stress of physical symptoms can all contribute.
Persistent low mood, loss of interest in daily activities, or feelings of hopelessness should always be discussed with a healthcare professional rather than dismissed as “just hormones.”
